The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says an 18-month-old Sequoyah County girl drowns in a swimming pool.

It happened Wednesday around 8 p.m. near Muldrow.

OHP's Marine Enforcement Division says Lakelyn Thornell had been wearing a personal floatation device, but it had been removed after multiple trips from the pool to the house.

Troopers say there were several adults near the above ground pool, but none had realized the child had gotten back in the water.

Sometime later they found the toddler floating face down.

Lakelyn was transported to a Fort Smith Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
