A Secret Santa pays off thousands of dollars at a local K-Mart store.
It happened at 51st & Harvard around 11 on Monday morning. It’s not the first time this same company has become a layaway angel to dozens of families.
The anonymous company is hoping other businesses in town will do the same thing and pay it forward.
These are not tears of pain, but rather tears of joy.
Brandi Vann could never have imagined the surprise that awaited her at her local K-Mart.
"I was here looking around and these wonderful people paid off my daughter's layaway,” she says.
Having that financial weight off her shoulders is a tremendous relief.
"It’s very comforting to get help,” says Vann.
Brandi had put the Kindle Fire in layaway for her daughter. It’s something she’s wanted for quite sometime, but she just didn’t have the money to pay for it. So, layaway was her only option.
"When you don't have lot of money to spend during the holidays and someone's able to help you so that you can provide something for both your daughters that they wanted for a long time it’s amazing,” says Vann.
This is the second year in a row for this anonymous company to pay $5,000 for shoppers at K-Mart.
"The challenge from the owner of our company is to challenge the other owners of other companies to do the same,” says Kelly Pike.
Marilyn Reid also got the once-in-a-lifetime call.
"It's paid off by a secret Santa, and I said what, O' my gosh and I was just so excited and happy,” says Reid.
Marilyn had put several clothes for her three granddaughters in layaway, and she was looking forward to the day she could pay off her bill.
"I heard of it last year, but I never thought I would get it,” says Reid.
To the Secret Santa who blessed these strangers during the holidays, these women have this to say to you…
"Thank you very much…it's a wonderful gift and I appreciate it,” says Vann.
"You're a wonderful person and thank you,” says Reid.
The Secret Santa also paid off layaways at the Wal-Mart on Admiral and Memorial.
