Madison County Sheriff's Deputies are out searching for plane debris near Pettigrew, Arkansas.  According to Lynn Lunsford, FAA spokesperson, the plane was headed to Claremore Regional Airport when it went missing in Arkansas. He said controllers lost radar and radio contact with the aircraft near Huntsville, Ark., shortly after 2 p.m.

Authorities in Arkansas began searching for the aircraft on Monday but did not find it. Two people are believed to be on-board. Lunsford said the tail number is N888TP. FOX23 found it's registered to Airmart Aircraft Holdings Inc. out of North Carolina.

The plane was traveling from Sylacauga, AL. According to our sister station in Northwest Arkansas, it was about 550 miles into the trip when it's believed to have crashed near Pettigrew. Lunsford said it was cloudy and rainy when the plane disappeared and the terrain is mountainous. Some neighbors did report hearing the crash.

Deputies tell FOX23 they are prepared to stay out all day and search for the plane.

Looks like he failed to navigate through the strong storms right across the flight path at that time. It may very well turn out that the plane lost a wing in a thunderstorm. Very sad but completely preventable.
