Area school districts are looking at their options in case the winter weather causes schools to close.

FOX23 News spoke with several school district officials about having enough snow days to get through the rest of winter.

Bixby was one of half a dozen districts FOX23 spoke with and they said they they're praying they don't get any more winter weather because they're running out of snow days built into the calendar.

"I am so pleased to see that they do consider extreme cold weather days," a student's grandparent Deanna Stephenson said.

Stephenson thinks Bixby Public Schools has done the right thing all four times it has canceled classes for winter weather.

"The answer is always gonna be we're gonna err on the side of caution," Bixby Assistant Superintendent Bryan Frazier said.

Frazier told FOX23 that won't change even if it means using up the last two snow days the district has.

"It's about kids standing out front waiting for the buses," Frazier said. "It's about the ability to bus, the buses to get where they're actually supposed to be."

Tulsa Public Schools has used four of only five snow days built in to the calendar, but there are a few options for flexibility.

But for both districts, if they end up with three or more snow days the missed class time will have to be made up somehow.

They could extend school days.

Stephenson would prefer extra days at the end of the year, but she realizes neither option is going to work well for everyone.

"I know that would create problems probably for individuals have already scheduled vacations, but we have after-school activities."

The districts we talked to tell us trimming days off spring break will not be an option.

Ultimately, it will be up to each district to decide if they want to add days to the end of the year or add time on to each school day.
