Three teens were thrown from their vehicle after they collided with a school bus Wednesday night in Adair.
Adair police say say the bus was westbound on Highway 28 in the town of Adair when a Jeep headed east turned in front of it. Three teens were thrown from the Jeep.
FOX23 was at the scene of the accident on Highway 28 near Road 437. It was very somber there, as police believe the three teens suffered life-altering injuries.
It took crews more than an hour Wednesday night to clean up the crash scene on Highway 28, but it's the human toll police worried about the most.
"They were in a rollover and ejected over there,” Adair policeman Glenn Parman said.
Three girls inside the Jeep were flown by helicopter to St.Francis Hospital.
There were no students onboard the school bus.
Medics treated the bus driver at the scene.
"He was pretty shook up. He was from this area; he probably knew these kids," Parman said.
Police say the bus driver just didn't have time to react.
"He said he didn't even see them until they were turning in front of him," Parman said.
As for the teens who turned into the path of the bus at this point police aren't sure how it happened, but officers took solace in the fact that the bus wasn't full of kids.
FOX23 placed at least five phone calls to the medics who transported the crash victims. At this time, police aren't releasing names or conditions of the victims.
