It was a scary ending to the school-week for some Tulsa Public School students. Their bus collided with a pickup near 15th and Sheridan on day afternoon.

FOX23 was on the scene all night talking to witnesses.
Glass is about all the remains from the very scary wreck. It came from the truck that hit a bus full of kids.

The kids s well as the eyewitnesses FOX23 talked with were understandably very emotional.

"It sounded like a big gas explosion, like a house had just exploded. That's how bad the impact was,” Shiela Eytcheson told FOX23.

It’s something she said she never wanted to see.

Tulsa police say a red truck was driving east on 85th East Avenue. The bus was north on 16th Street.
The truck had a stop sign but didn’t stop. That's when the bus t-boned the truck.

These skid marks show just how hard the bus tried to stop. We looked it up, a school bus weighs anywhere from 11-14 tons and something that heavy doesn't stop easily.

"I thought he was dead, the guy in the truck. I thought there'd be all kinds of children hurt,” Eytcheson said.

Luckily that wasn't the case.

Even though the driver had to be cut out of the truck, he was taken to Saint Francis hospital with non-life-hreatening injuries.

All 26 kids are OK too.

When we arrived, 25 of them were getting on a different bus. The other one, a little girl, was being treated for a bump on the head.

Eytcheson is glad that everyone is OK, but begs for people to drive more carefully.

“This is a residential area, guys. Please don't be speeding down through here. There are kids, they are getting out of school and having to cross streets just slow don't people."

However, a neighbor who lives on the corner of that intersection says he’s not surprised it happened. He watches cars blow through the stop signs all the time.
“I’ve seen 40 or 50 cars come through here without even slowing down,” Joe Rick told FOX23.

We sat at the intersection for 30 minutes and spotted four break the law.

Rick said he slows down or even stops at intersections like the one by his house, because he doesn’t trust other drivers.

Rick seems to have a pretty good idea. We asked TPD for advice. They said you can't count on others to be careful, so you need to be the vigilant one.

It's the spacing between the seats in conjunction with the overall weight of the bus. School buses are dassigned with more safety than personally owned vehicle. I hope the pickup driver recovers ok.
