The Sand Springs City Council implemented a new ordinance to keep people from feeding the geese at Sand Springs Lake.

Runners and bikers told FOX23 they are constantly dodging geese droppings.

"It's disgusting and I don't enjoy it," said Elizabeth Luttrell.

FOX23 found the sidewalks covered in the mess.

"They don't bother me that much but I'm sure they bother the houses around here and they poop a lot," said Kyler Copeland.

"The droppings that they leave, of course, makes the sidewalks slick and have diseases," said Tom Peterson.

Peterson, with B-Gone Wildlife, helped get rid of the geese problem a few years ago at the lake.

"A lot of people will feed them. That could be one of the main reasons why they stay. It's the wrong thing to do," said Peterson.

On Monday night the City Council voted to ban feeding the geese. The issue was first brought up by concerned neighbors.

"We're asking people for their help to have the geese go on their way and leave," said Grant Geronadale, Sand Springs parks director.
