Sand Springs police are investigating the attempted rape of a jogger.
Police said on Sunday just before 5 p.m. they were called to River City Park. Police said a jogger, a 20-year old woman, told them she was on the trail around 4:20 p.m. when the attacker passed her on a bicycle.
The woman told police the man waited until she passed under highway 97 and then showed her he had a gun and ordered her to walk to the woods near the trail.
Police said the victim told them the culprit also had a knife and ordered her to perform sexual acts, but she was able to fight him for control of the knife and get away.
Police said the victim did cut her hand in the struggle and she thought the attacker could have been stabbed in the leg during the fight.
The victim was treated and released at a medical facility near the attack site.
FOX23 found LaDawn Keasling out with her young daughter enjoying a bike ride, when a reporter told her Sand Springs police were searching for an attempted rapist she immediately became alarmed.
“That scares me a lot because I have a little girl,” she said.
LaDawn said this incident will make her more aware when she and her daughter leave the safety of their home.
“You never know what they’re going to go because they could knock you out and no telling what they could do to your little kid.”
LaDawn said it’s incidents like this one that force parents to restrict what their children do.
"That’s why I don’t let her play outside very much by herself.”
Police have a vague description of the attacker and want anyone with information to call Sand Springs police at (918) 245-8777 or submit a tip online at www.sandspringspolice.org.
