Sand Springs --
A Sand Springs man stabbed and killed a dog he says was attacking his neighbor.
It happened around 10:30 on Tuesday night off Long Street near highway 412.
FOX23spoke with the man who saved his neighbor’s life and he says it was a hard thing to do but it had to be done.
Larry Tessier says he was at home late with his mother on Tuesday night when he heard her let out a horrific scream.
“I looked out and saw my friend Jeremy Byrd standing there and he had a pit bull latched on to his forearm," says Tessier.
Larry says his neighbor’s arm was already chewed up pretty bad, and Larry’s first instinct was to grab the dog and try to save his friend.
“I grabbed the dog underneath the jaw and squeezed down until the dog released its jaws,” describes Larry.
At that point, he says his mother helped Jeremy into the house and tried to stop his bleeding. Meanwhile, the dog became even angrier.
“I yelled for my mom to get a knife and she came out with a whole handful of knives, and I told her to stab it in the lungs between the ribs," says Tessier.
His mom called 911 and Jeremy was taken to the hospital where he could have to have surgery for his injuries.
“I believe if that had been a small child that had been attacked, it could have easily been killed,” said Larry.
I tried to speak to the owner of the dog, but he wasn’t at home.
Right now, deputies are trying to get a hold of the owner, who has been cited once before for not keeping a dangerous animal contained. They placed a notice on his door asking him to contact them about this incident.
Larry says he feels bad because he doesn’t feel like the dog was given the love it needed.
“I don’t believe that all pit bulls are bad dogs, but any dog that isn’t given the proper love and care that it needs is going to be a mean dog," he says.
The dog is being tested for rabies.
