The Salvation Army Tulsa Area Command is hoping to raise $650,000 with their 2012 “Full Kettles Warm Hearts” Red Kettle Campaign over the upcoming holidays.
Salvation Army held a kickoff at the new Bixby Reasor’s on Thursday. Reasor’s offered a challenge grant to meet that goal by pledging to match donations raised today at the 14 Reasor’s locations on November 15, up to $5,000.
Last year, $68,466.67 was collected at local Reasor’s stores during the holiday season with $13,968.38 collected on the kickoff day which earned matching funds.
“We know the need is even greater this year,” said Anthony Fulfaro, Bixby Store Director, at the Kickoff. “Reasor’s is proud to partner with The Salvation Army to help meet those needs.”
Major James Taylor, local area commander said this year the Tulsa Salvation Army will help 4,200 families over the holidays.
“Those 4,200 families mean just over 13,000 people of all ages who need assistance,” he said, adding that the number is up 1,000 from last year, “having matching grants such as the one Reasor’s offered today is critical to our success.
“We appreciate the generosity of Reasor’s and their many customers who will take a few moments to drop their change and bills into the red kettles while shopping in the Tulsa area this holiday season.”
Major Taylor added there is still time for other companies to offer matching kettle grants and they may get more information by calling 918-587-7801.
Major Taylor reminded people they can make donations to the Salvation Army by texting the word JOY to 85944 to make a one-time $10 donation.
