My wife and I elected to run the OK City Marathon even after running marathons on each of the preceding two weeks – primarily as a remembrance of those affected by the Boston and Ok City Bombings. This was our first time in Oklahoma City. We have run many marathons in many locations over the years and were captivated by the distinct emotional support provided by the city residents. There were multitudes of spectators that showed up for the tribute at the memorial at 5:30 A.M. and they were present some thirty deep at the race start. There were thousands of volunteers cheering us on along the course. As we ran shoulder to shoulder with the host of runners, many also wearing shirts, stickers and signs supporting the victims, we knew we were participating in an unforgettable event. We give credit to Chet Collier and his team for putting such a herculean effort together, but we know that the real recognition goes to the residents of Oklahoma City for their sustained efforts in keeping this event as truly the “Run to Remember”.
