Donations are pouring in to increase the reward to find an arsonist responsible for a New Year’s Eve fire where a Tulsa firefighter was hurt.
James O’Neal, 35, is breathing on his own after inhaling smoke while fighting a fire in the 49 hundred block of north Elwood on Saturday. His fellow firefighters revived him and he is in intensive care at the hospital.
The reward fund is now $3500 thanks to funds from the Crime Commission, International Association of Firefighters Local 176, local businessman Brett Baker, Deril and Robbin Lees, Mayor Bartlett’s private funds, and Bartlett’s company Keener Oil.
“By adding to the reward fund, we hope to enhance the probability that someone will come forward with information to help investigators solve this case,” said Mayor Bartlett. “In the interest of public safety, we want to help the fire marshals determine who is responsible for the fire that injured one of our firefighters.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Arson Hotline at 918-596-2776 (ARSN). The reward will be provided to information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
