Records unsealed for material witness in quadruple homicides

A Tulsa judge unsealed the records about a material witness in the investigation into the quadruple homicide at Fairmont Terrace in January.

Twin sisters Rebeika Powell and Kayetie Melchor and friends Julie Jackson and Misty Nunley were shot to death in an apartment near 61st and Peoria on January 7th.

Court records now show Susan Canady was arrested on January 11th as a material witness to the investigation. In court papers filed on the 11th, District Attorney Tim Harris asked the court to seal the records of Canady’s arrest for her protection.

“A criminal information has not been filed by the State of Oklahoma because of the unfolding nature of the ongoing investigation. However, records related to the arrest of this material witness exist and present a legitimate cause for concern if disclosed.”

The Tulsa Police Department also expressed concern about the protection of the witness and preserving the integrity of the evidence in the investigation.

On February 6th, TPD arrested Cedric Poore and James Poore for four counts of first degree murder for the Fairmont Terrace homicides.

On February `14th, DA Harris filed paperwork saying it was no longer necessary to seal these records or any records associated with this case. A judge approved the motion on the same day.
