FOX23 has learned QuikTrip will soon be opening its doors in Muskogee for the first time.
It will open along Highway 69 near the Shawnee Bypass.
The city believes this will open the door to continuing development in that area.
“A lot of people have been talking about it,” said Toni Hans, as she fills up her car at a gas station in Muskogee.
She told FOX23’s Dontaye Carter she is excited about a QuikTrip finally coming to Muskogee.
“I’m more excited about it because they have more of the icy machines, different flavors.”
The store will be built right off one of the city’s biggest intersections. Muskogee Mayor Bob Coburn says other business tend to build around QuikTrips.
“It brings new retail dollars into the community,” he said. “It brings new development dollars into the community.
Its money they hope to keep in this community. Mayor Coburn says they lose out on $138 million annually because residents do their grocery shopping outside of Muskogee.
“I hear that from our citizens on a regular basis we would like to have a reasors or a reasors equivalent,” Coburn said.
He’s hoping building QuikTrip will be just the beginning in development along this highway.
“We want the world to know we are ready to do business.”
QuikTrip tells us it will take them at least 14 months to get the building up and running.
