It appears to be a magic trick, but detectives with Tulsa Police police say it's just a good old fashioned old-fashioned con artist who's good at sleight of hand. Numerous stores around town have reported being short-changed by a man after he walked into their store.

Police tell FOX23 an older man will walk into a store and use a large bill like a $100 to pay for something small like a drink, and then he lets his mouth do the talking.

Surveillance video inside Flowers Discount Bakery in east Tulsa shows a man walk up to the counter to pay for his drink. The young clerk behind the counter has no idea she's about to get conned out of more than 100 dollars.$100.

"He will basically put a large bill down to pay for a small item, and then he will try to change and say he wants to pay with a smaller amount or he will try to get it in smaller demonization's," denominations," says Detective Darin Shipley.

But police say it's only the beginning of his game.

"In the meantime he will take the large bill back while they're doing that and he gets them confused, and they end up giving him the change as well as letting him keep the large bill," says Shipley.

If the clerk tries to protest or starts to catch on to what he is doing, police say the man will start harassing them and try other tactics to get them to hurry up with the transaction.

"He'll talk down to them and try to get them as confused and as flustered as he can so they will want the transaction to end as quickly as possible," he says.

In this case, it worked and the man was able to get away with his original $100 dollars, $100, plus about $98 more in cash.

Detectives say they have reason to believe that he could be the same man who's done this 33 other times at stores all across town. They're hoping surveillance tape will help them catch him.

where I work we implemented a system of no bills over twenty rung into the register so if a customer has a hundred we have to break it down first then ring up the sale. he only gets away with this because of poor training. you would not believe how many people actually try this crap.

Glenn Sheppard , a.k.a Don West , a known quick change artist . Has attempted to do this out North ! And this definitely looks like him . We now offer no change back , he must go to our office window ! He has a long history of this and will Continue - unless they lock him up for a very long time . Also didn't know Flowers bakery had a day old center . Nice to know !
