Sperry, OK- A principal involved in allegations of inappropriate conduct has been cleared by the state District Attorney's Office, still a decision on his employment at Sperry High School is pending.
"When my sons were going to school at Sperry, it was the best school," said Darla Edwards, a waitress at the Chow Wagon Diner, who hears a lot of from town residents each day at work while she's waiting tables. "I hear that he's innocent."
Edwards is talking about Tim Weaver, Sperry High's principal who's been on paid leave since allegations came out that he made students feel uncomfortable in a boy's locker room.
Both the DA's office and Tulsa County sheriff's investigators say he won't face any charges.
Still, Edwards says the damage may already be done.
"I've always believed you are innocent until proven guilty," said Edwards. "I hope everyone else takes that same stance."
But, she knows- old wounds sometimes take the most time to heal.
"The battle is between the people and the students and the school board," she said. "It's like a little civil war type thing in the community that's been going on in the community that's so unnecessary."
In the end, she says she hopes parents, students and teachers can come together for the sake of the school.
"We really do love our students and our school and we really want them to accomplish what they can in life."
Sperry's acting superintendent Dr. Jim Sisney says he'll likely be ready next week to make a statement regarding the employment status of Weaver.
Weaver's attorney, Perry Newman, says he will release a statement next week also.
The school board will decide June 30th whether or not to keep Sisney on longer as superintendent.
If not, Sisney says he has other opportunities in private business.
Dr. Rayma Harchar resigned in April. She was the sixth administrator to leave Sperry schools since 2007.
