OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - President Barack Obama has arrived in Oklahoma in advance of an energy-related speech near Cushing.

President Obama greeted Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and other dignitaries Wednesday night at Tinker Air Force Base before jogging over to greet a crowd of about 150 people gathered on the air base tarmac.

On Thursday in Cushing, the president will announce a directive to federal agencies to fast-track an oil pipeline from the Oklahoma town to refineries on Texas' Gulf Coast. The project is part of the larger Keystone XL project that Obama rejected earlier this year.

The 485-mile pipeline would remove a bottleneck in the country's oil transportation system, as rising oil production has outgrown pipelines' capacity to deliver oil to refineries.

The president is schedule to leave Oklahoma at midday Thursday.

@TulTex - I think that it's hilarious when people always make the assumption that Government and the Private sector are different. Neither would survive without the other. And, who do you think is in our Government? It's full of people from the private sector. My god, who do you think lobbyists work with and for? @NavyVet - Calling someone an idiot without knowing them is ridiculous. Oklahoma was and will be all red. But, do you know what comes with that "All Red" state? Oklahoma is always ranked high in these categories... Poverty. Child Abuse. Divorce. Obesity. Spousal Abuse. Yeah, if I was republican, I'd be proud of that... Why is it that every state run by conservatives is always higher on these lists that Democrat / progressive states? I mean, didn't Oklahoma pass a law recently allowing people to get Tattoos? Seriously? I think if the voters of Oklahoma had it their way, we'd travel to work on horse and buggy. Look forward people. Don't be afraid of change. Obama might not have brought the change you wanted, but don't be afraid to experiment. The responses on here disgust me.

This jerk is coming here to take credit for a project that he has nothing to do with. This project was going to happen no matter what and did not need his approval. I hope he gets the hell heckled out of him. They need to let him know that he is not welcome here in Oklahoma. He did not win one county in Oklahoma the last election and he will not win one this time. Oklahoma is the only state the last election that went all red. Obama is a idiot !!!

Our President - in Cushing? Seriously? To offer up the one-sixteenth of a loaf as a consolation prize, in place of the whole loaf on which he blocked delivery? Does no one understand that building the KEYSTONE PIPELINE from the Gulf to Canada would not only facilitate more efficient distribution of domestic oil production, but also create REAL JOBS? When is the government going to step back into its role of protecting our nation, its borders, and our constitution, and allow the private sector to drive our economy to a recovery and sustained growth?
