Another Oklahoma community requires a prescription to purchase pseudoephedrine.

The Claremore man spearheading the proposal reports Wagoner approved making pseudoephedrine a prescription in the city tonight.

The cold medicine in gel cap form is exempt from the proposal so a prescription would not be required for pseudoephedrine in gel caps.

A similar law failed in the Statehouse this year.

The local man behind the mission, David Starkey wants to make it tougher for meth makers to make their dangerous drugs and cause harm to innocent families.

The one-pot or shake-and-bake method is popular among meth makers and is more susceptible to explosions.

Pseudoephedrine is the key ingredient to make meth.

Starkey says Wagoner unanimously approved the ordinance. Government supporters include Wagoner Police Chief Bob Haley, Oklahoma Senator Kim David, R-Wagoner and Wagoner Mayor James Jennings.

Those opposed believe it will make it tougher people without insurance to purchase the cold medicine that has key ingredient to make meth.

Oregon passed a similar law and reports meth labs are down by 90%.

Holdenville and Wagoner are the only municipalities in Oklahoma to require a prescription to purchase pseudoephedrine.

Starkey can make whatever claims he wants, but I'm the one posting FACTS with REFERENCES. Starkey is the one posting personal attacks and NO FACTS. Starkey, I warned you about posting lies about me. Every time you do, I post your criminal record: http://criminalsearches.com/summary.aspx?input=name&fn=David&ln=Starkey&city=&state=OK

Bogus claims abound in OR and MS. Just because they SAY they have seen a reduction doesn't mean they HAVE a reduction. The SAME bogus claims were made about the LAST boneheaded law in this very state. See for yourself: http://www.namsdl.org/resources/chicago08/kirkpatrick-namsdlpresentation.ppt We all know those claims turned out to be a bunch of the typical government lies. Starkey claims that gel caps and liquid can't be used to make meth. According to the DEA and the DOJ, he's wrong: http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/fed_regs/rules/2010/fr0707.htm According to news reports as far back as 2005, including statements from forensic chemists, he's wrong: http://www.fox16.com/news/story/Meth-from-Liquid-Gel-Caps/2D2K3PboKkOaI5Unep9vnQ.cspx Other facts: Pseudoephedrine (PSE) is NOT required in order to make meth. Cities don't have the legal authority to pass drug policy. This will make innocent people suffer while doing nothing about meth for all of the above reasons. Passing laws targeting law abiding citizens for the crimes of others does NOT deter crime. It never has and never will. It's also known as a Gestapo tactic. The claims that there are other drugs that can be used instead of PSE are outright lies. PSE is the ONLY safe and effective decongestant on the market. The current laws are what caused the mobile meth labs and the shake and bake method. What will be the unintended consequences of this new boneheaded, counterfactual law? The price of PSE WILL go up, and, if covered by insurance, will increase insurance costs. If not covered by insurance, consumers will have to pay more out of pocket.
