The 46th annual Porter Peach Festival kicked off on Thursday and will last through the weekend.
There are activities planned throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday including street games, a dessert contest, pet show, antique tractor pull and live music.
Saturday's festivities start with a 5k run, parade, car show, karaoke, and an peach auction. At 1:00 pm on Saturday, free peaches and ice cream will be given away while supplies last.
Food vendors, arts and crafts, and a small carnival will be present throughout the weekend and a trolley will be available to carry visitors to the events from the parking lots.
Organized by the Porter Lion's Club, this annual event makes a huge economic impact on the community. Proceeds usually fund scholarships, local charities and events, supplying eyeglasses, etc., but this year the Club's plans include repairs and maintenance to Lion's Park. The park needs a walking track, new playground equipment, more tables, and a new gazebo.
