A Pop-Up business concept has helped a restaurant owner open a store front in Bartlesville.
Taj-The Flavor, is now offering Indian cuisine at a downtown Bartlesville location after testing the market at a temporary location in August.
Ayyappan Subbiah, the owner of Taj, credits the customers who visited the pop-up for allowing him to make his vision a reality.
“After the pop-up we wanted to start immediately,” said Subbiah.
The Pop-Up concept is being used by Downtown Bartlesville Inc. to bring potential restaurants and retailers to the downtown area that may not be familiar with the market.
“Our purpose for this is to recruit,” said Chris Wilson, Director of Downtown Bartlesville Inc.
Subbiah told FOX23 the pop up concept allowed him to gauge the interest of the community without wasting money, time and energy.
“It’s very important to know if people will be interested in the type of food that you are going serve,” said Subbiah.
Subbiah said he served approximately 900 people during the trial operating period.
Wilson said the pop-up was a calculated effort to test the market and the response surveys are a valuable aspect of the process.
“Everyone has a voice in the action,” said Wilson, “This is a business recruitment tool and we love to have success.”
A new store front means more money and revenue for Bartlesville. Ayyapan said he has already hired ten employees and hopes to add more in the future.
Customers told FOX23 the restaurant goes beyond a successful business concept.
“It’s nice to have a cultural impact and I think for this area it really brings things up a notch and provides something that wasn’t here before,” said Ian Mitchell of Bartlesville.
Taj-The Flavor is located on 322 South Johnstone Ave. in Bartlesville.
