Tulsa police have identified a the victim in the city's 30th homicide as Melissa Lemery.

Police say 21-year-old Joshua Reynolds is in custody and being questioned. According to the arrest report Reynolds told a family member that he killed someone.

Police say a woman's body was
found wrapped in a blanket in the backyard of a house near 7 North 48th West Avenue around 7 a.m.

The report states Reynolds was read his Miranda rights and told police he met the woman at a strip club on Wednesday night and they went to his house after the club closed.  Reynolds said the woman tried to steal some items and he got angry and confronted her.

According to the report Reynolds grabbed a machete when they woman charged back at him and started swinging in self-defense. Reynolds said the fight continued into the backyard when he struck her with the machete. Reynolds told police the victim was struggling to breathe so he then dropped a cinder block on her head.

The report states he then wrapped the body in a blanket and tried to conceal it in a mattress in the backyard.

One neighbor, Rebecca Foltz, told FOX23 she woke up to police cars lining her street on Thursday.

"Mamma came pounding on my door and said your friend's in custody and there has been a murder," she said.

Foltz has lived across the street from the man police are now questioning in the crime for a year. Foltz said he lived there with his girlfriend and family.

"He's fun, down to earth, he'd come out here and play basketball with us. I don't think he could do it," she said.

Police say a woman in her late teen or 20s was found dead around 7 a.m. Thursday.
.
Police say some neighbors heard a disturbance a few hours before the suspect's family called 911.

But Foltz heard nothing, and "if I did I would have come out and at least saved the girl."

Police aren't releasing the woman's name, but are calling her an acquaintance of the suspect.

Officers won't tell say how the victim died, but say it looks like a fight happened inside the home.

Foltz says she just doesn't think her neighbor is capable of killing.

"He's a good guy. He's not that type of guy. I don't think he did it," she said.

Police are expected to release the name of the victim Thursday afternoon.

Seriously? Tattoos meant his life is over? How ignorant are you to publicly make this claim? ALL walks of life have ink. Many successful people are tattooed. Millions are tattooed and haven't killed anyone. On the neck or any other place. You just sound like a racist, sexist, bigoted, stupid person. Educate yourself before you make public blanket statements like that!
