FOX23 is learning more about what happened when a woman was attacked by a police dog during a traffic stop.

It all started when a Cherokee Nation marshal pulled a woman over for speeding.

That traffic stop prompted the marshal to ask Emily Newman if he could send his police dog around her car.

Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. told FOX23,"The marshal K-9 detected a positive hit for narcotics on the vehicle."

A family member said the police dog lunged into the car and bit Newman in the face.

This is a picture taken before doctors repaired Newman’s cheek, and it was too graphic to show you on TV.

"All I know is the K-9 made a hit on the vehicle. Certainly our thoughts and prayers are with the motorist who is now recovering," Hoskins said.

The officer took Newman to a nearby fire station.

The family member said another officer took her back to the scene to get the piece of her face that was left on the road.

They then took Newman to St. Francis Hospital where they stitched the piece back on.

FOX23 asked the Secretary of State if he could tell us anything about why the dog bit Newman and if the police dog has showed previous aggression at all.

"As I said, all of these matters are under review by the attorney general and it would be forthcoming in any sort of report from his office," Hoskins said.

He said that information could be available in the next few days.

Hoskins wouldn't comment on the investigation into the dog attack, but he did say he expected Newman to face some kind of charge related to narcotics.

No mention of the dog being quarantined for rabies. It's the law (unless you are above the law).

Firemike #8 ^]] I'm pretty much in concurrence with dirty sermon (aka Unwashed Mass) on this one. That dog should not bite if there is a presence of drugs. The dog is only there to indicate. This woman won't have to go to the casino to get money. The casino is going to make a big money trAil to her door. Both the handler and the dog (K9) should be terminated from duty.

Hey Ashleigh, if you actually read the story, you will find that it said nothing about any drugs being found. I typically disagree with absolutely everything Unwashed writes, but in this case, I completely agree...or Fox has yet to get the full story, again.

I hope this woman soon owns a piece of these clowns, because she will be disfigured for life due to their arrogance. They were no doubt just saying the "K-9 detected a positive hit for narcotics" to cover their tracks, because obviously they didnt find any, and drug dogs will give those "hits" in response to their owner's hand signals. I see a Grand Jury in someone's future.
