Police are blaming careless driving for a car wreck that killed one woman Sunday afternoon and has one man in serious condition.
It happened just after 1:00 p.m. Sunday on Highway 169 northbound near the Broken Arrow Expressway exit.
FOX23 learned there was actually never a collision. It was a single car accident, but police say it was caused by another driver.
A full parking lot at Woodland Hills Mall shows just how many shoppers are flocking to one area.
Many of them using Highway 169 to get there, a route that proved to be deadly.
"It does appear that people are a little hurried," Sgt. Stephen Boys told FOX23.
On Sunday, police say 20-year-old Samantha Ruvalacaba was killed.
Police tell FOX23 Ruvalacaba and Alvaro Mondragon were in a white SUV exiting onto the Broken Arrow Expressway, when witnesses say a blue car cut in front of them.
That's when Mondragon swerved, which caused the vehicle to roll.
Police said neither of the passengers were wearing their seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle.
Ruvalacaba died at the hospital, but officials expect Mondragon to be OK.
The accident will forever link the pair to a memory police don't want others to forget.
"It's the holiday season people's minds are elsewhere, but you still need to pay attention to what's going on so everyone can make it to the holidays alive," Sgt. Boys said.
The person driving the blue car didn't stop, but a witness did give police the license plate number. Authorities are working to track down the driver.
They will investigate before deciding whether or not to file charges.
