Tulsa police locked up a Tulsa couple accused of letting their children live in squalor.

Police arrested Matthew and Angela Prior on complaints of child abuse and neglect. Investigators say their home near Pine and Memorial was full of flies and cockroaches.

The three children are all under the age of 6, and police tell FOX23 when they came to the home, they found urine, feces, broken glass and numerous cockroaches.

The front yard is littered with old toys, broken glass and several trash cans. Police found the children there late Tuesday night.

Officers had gone to the home on a welfare check and were stunned to find the children living in conditions.

Police found Matthew and Angela Prior at home at the time and neighbors watched as police placed them under arrest.

"I came out to water the plants and we could hear her yelling, 'What did I do to go to jail?'" says neighbor Amanda Pitts.

According to their police reports, officers found trash, dirty diapers, spoiled food, electrical hazards and thousands of flies. The officers also found cockroaches crawling all over the floor and also on the food in the kitchen. The report goes on to state that the children were covered in open sores.

"There were several times the kids would come over to play with my kids, and they would be covered in dirt, and you just want to take a water hose and hose them off," says Pitts.

At the time of his arrest, Matthew Prior told police and DHS that his house was not dirty and that his children were taken care of.

Neighbor Nancy Carol lives two doors down and tells FOX23 that she always had a bad feeling about the house and what went on inside.

"I don't know what they fed the kids or if they fed those children anything, and those children were dressed like ragamuffins, you know," says Carol.

The three children were taken into DHS custody and placed in the care of a local shelter.

No, they need condemnation. Any church would have loaned them a broom, mop, and pinesol.

Glad the children are safe. This family needs help, not condemnation.
