The frigid temperatures are expected to cause water main breaks. Plumbing companies were on standby Thursday morning and as it gets colder they are expecting more calls from customers with frozen pipes.
On Wednesday FOX23 put in calls to Mullin Plumbing and Williams Plumbing and Drain Service. Both companies said they have workers on call and on standby in case they get a lot of calls from people with frozen pipes.
Plumbers said it's a good idea to leave your faucets dripping especially if you've had problems in the past because it could likely happen again. Also, leave cabinet doors open to let warm air surround the pipes winds drive cold air into crawl spaces and attics so keep the doors to those areas closed. FOX 23 went to speak with the director of Tulsa public works.
“There a lot of homes and businesses that do have automatic lawn sprinkling systems and they forget to turn those off when it gets really cold,” said the director.
Both plumbing companies say it's around $150 to $200 to repair frozen pipes but home repair costs can be a lot more. It is much cheaper in the long run just to leave the faucets dripping.
