They looked. They watched. They gawked.
All for the same reason - curiousity.
6 days he's been there, hanging on.
William Sturdivant climbed up the tower outside FOX23 studios Thursday morning. On the following Tuesday, Tulsa police brought in a top-notch negotiator.
"I don't know how he's been up there all this time," said one man.
"He's dangling. It's sad to watch," said a woman.
And the people just keep coming to watch.
Traffic backed up on Memorial. The Whataburger had a record-breaking week in sales.
People turned a crisis into a spectacle.
"We've never had anything like this in Tulsa," a woman said.
"It's ridiculous, like a train wreck, gotta stop and look for a minute," said one man as he drove through the parking lot.
And then finally, William decides it's time. The negotiator brings him down.
And the people watching, some who had been there for hours and even days, rejoiced.
"When I saw him get in the bucket, I was jumping and praise the Lord," one woman exclaimed.
"I'm next to tears," another woman said. "He's down, and he can get help."
"I'm just glad they got him home safe," said one man who was sitting in his truck and smiling.
