Drivers along the Broken Arrow Expressway have yet another reason to be frustrated.
Starting Saturday at 7AM traffic will be narrowed to one lane on the BA between Harvard and Yale. ODOT is replacing the bridge deck over Pittsburgh Avenue.
Now, neighbors living near 31st & Hudson are worried people will be taking short cuts through their area.
Candy Lawrence loves to spend time outdoors with her Boston terrier, Panda. The family has lived off 31st & Hudson for about 5 years now, but news that the BA expressway will be narrowed down to one lane between Harvard and Yale has her very concerned.
"People are going to get on and off and try to make the shortcuts and it's going to be a nightmare,” says Candy.
Her husband Rick is equally worried.
"Just in the few minutes that you've been here, we've probably had 100 cars drive by. This is a very busy street, and with the increased traffic that you're telling me about, we're probably going to have some more accidents,” says Rick.
The couple is concerned about small children who play in the area.
"That's just going to put everybody in that much more danger. You worry about your family, your pets and your kids anyway,” says Candy.
“My wife and I watch our dogs and our kids rather closely and we don't leave them unsupervised, but there are people that don't watch them as close as they should and I have this fear that someone is going to run over someone because their not looking or paying attention,” Rick says.
Now the family says they will be on high alert to make sure nothing happens to their kids or their pets.
ODOT tells FOX23 the lane closure is expected to last two months.
Crews will then move over to the east side and do the same thing in a couple of weeks. There are no specific detours set, so make sure to plan ahead this weekend before the Monday morning rush hour.
