The Southwest Paranormal Investigators hosted a seminar at the Bartlesville Library on Tuesday evening to go over what they do and how they track things that give people the chills.
“The only fear that people have is the fear of the unknown,” said one of the teams’ lead investigators, Kevin Dewey.
Dewey said he and his team regularly receive calls from concerned homeowners who see strange shadows, figures or unexplained noises. He says the callers are often scared and want answers; so does he.
“We are looking for answers ourselves,” said Dewey. He added his objective is put people’s fear at ease and to find explanations.
The Southwest Paranormal Investigators said they use an array of tools and equipment to help provide clients with logical explanations to the claims made.
The team uses DVR with night vision cameras, temperature monitors, motion and EMF detectors, voice recorders, laser grid and digital still cameras to aid in the investigations.
“We try to debunk things first,” said Dewey. Dewey said the team tries to find natural explanations.
“Mold, high EMF fields, a gas leak, carbon monoxide, even old chemicals in your garage or allergies could make you think that you are seeing things,” said Dewey.
But what happens when they can’t find a logical answer for the abnormal activity?
“That’s when we start looking into the paranormal,” said Dewey.
Dewey and his team said they have documented pictures and recordings of voices, shadows and orbs.
“We have no explanation for it,” said Dewey.
The Southwest Paranormal Investigators have investigated the Bartlesville Community Center and The Brown Mansion among other historical and residential areas in Green Country.
Approximately 75 people attended the seminar. Some in attendance said they are skeptical about the idea of ghosts but they are open to the possibility.
Jerry Kendall of Bartlesville told FOX23, “You can’t explain some things, so it is possible.”
Dewey said the service they provide is free. An investigation typically takes four hours to conduct an investigation.
The Southwest Paranormal Investigators will take part in the 2012 Ghost Walk in downtown Bartlesville on October 24th.
