Construction is underway at the Arkansas River.
PSO is relocating some of its power lines to make way for a new park area called the Gathering Place.
To do that, they have to send the lines underground near the west end of the 21st Street Bridge off Riverside.
They're boring down into the ground to send pipes and ultimately push through power lines to the other side of the river.
It's hard to miss the workers when along the bridge. They're relocating PSO power lines.
"They will actually bore under the river, then they will put conduit under there and put the cable through that," said Stan Whiteford with PSO.
They'll use machines to go about 20 feet below the river. When it's all done, officials said it will provide an enhanced level of reliability.
All of the work they're doing leads to the east side of the river, at the corner of Boulder and Riverside and where they already have tubes in place and they already bore a hole ready to pull through the pipes and power lines.
"We expect to have everything wrapped up here early next year or so," said Whiteford.
This is just the initial phase to help a project funded by the bonds passed in last week's elections.
"What we have are some lines that are fixed underneath the pedestrian bridge as it crosses over the Arkansas River and in not too long that bridge is going to be reconfigured," said Whiteford.
Whiteford said the change is a welcome improvement from the company's position as well.
"The existing cables were about 40 or 50 years old right now so it's not a bad idea to go ahead and replace them with a stronger cable, too," he said.
He informed us no one with PSO should experience any outages while they're working on this.
