FOX23 is finding out the trash troubles in Owasso have been going on for a week.
Preston Lakes, off 86th St. N. and 145th E. Ave. is just one of at least ten neighborhoods where the trash was not picked up on schedule. You can see trash bins out at the curb, many of them are overflowing.
The city tells us the problems started back on January 2. The city of Owasso posted on its Facebook page, crews were having trouble keeping up. The two big problems were the amount of trash being put out at the curb and the cold temperatures. Combined, the two factors caused equipment problems.
Crews fell behind a week ago, and have been struggling to catch up ever since.
In Preston Lakes, the trash was supposed to be picked up Wednesday. I talked to a few residents who didn't want to go on camera, but told me they were a little annoyed that their trash was still piling up on the curb, but Ed Pittman wasn't bothered.
"I've lived here 12 years, and this is the first time they haven't picked it up," said Pittman.
He says he knows they'll get to it as soon as they can.
His wife Pat jokingly said she'll be annoyed if it's not picked up tomorrow.
I have an appointment with Roger Stevens, Owasso's Public Works Director. I'm working to find out exactly how many trash trucks are broken, how many routes are behind, and when all the trash will be picked up. I'll get answers for you. Watch that story tonight on FOX23 News at 5PM.
