Thursday was Owasso's first day back, and it was a monumental day in the life of one father and daughter.
Eric Sanchez has served 15 years in the Navy and seen a lot of things, but nothing compares to seeing his daughter walk into Mills Elementary for her first day of school.
"I'm getting goose bumps just seeing her today," he said.
Veronica, 5, said there's one word to describe how she's feeling: "excited."
With her Disney Princess back pack and dad by her side, she walked onto campus and took in some new sights.
“Look, there's the school bus," she said.
Her father said she's ready to join her classmates, but to make sure she's prepared, he's been working with her at home.
"ABCs, counting, she's very intelligent. She probably gets that from her mom, obviously," he said.
After making sure Veronica found her classroom, he walked back out alone, hoping for the best.
"I figured nothing is more important than this," he said.
