Owasso police officers investigating an assault with a deadly weapon now say the victim knew the assailant.

“It being a holiday weekend and families are getting together so, it seemed pretty out of context to be something like that, something involving a stabbing,” said a resident at the apartment complex where the assault happened.

It happened at the Preston Lakes apartment complex off North 145th Street and East 86th Street North around 7:00 a.m.

OPD released on update on Monday:

"Regarding a reported Assault with a Deadly Weapon that occurred in Owasso on 11-26-2012, Owasso Police are responding to public fears that this was a random act of violence perpetrated within the community. Investigators have learned that this incident was not a random act of violence and that the victim and suspect in this case were acquainted. This investigation is still ongoing; no further information is being released at this time."

Residents at the apartment complex reported seeing the victim’s throat cut open.  They did not know what more had happened or who allegedly cut the victim’s throat.

“We just moved here so it kind of changed our impression of them a little bit,” said Roth and his wife Virginia Roth.

They both walk their small dog, Jasper, around the complex a few times a day.  Virginia saw the police vehicles on Sunday morning around 7:30 while she walked Jasper; and even though they still feel safe they will keep a better eye on each other and on their dog, knowing someone would hurt someone like that at their apartments.

“I might stay a little closer to the apartment after dark,” said Virginia Roth.  “You just never know, you just never know.  You can’t stay anywhere that you can be completely safe.”

The Preston Lakes apartment’s staff declined to comment about the incident, which concerned the Roths because they wanted to know more about their safety living there.

“It’s very disturbing,” said Virginia

“Something like that can happen anywhere,” said David.

No arrests have been made.  If you have any information about this incident please call the Owasso Police Department at 918-272-COPS.

He didn't know them! It was random! The things people like apartment owners or police will say to calm public fear... Not that it could have been prevented by either party, but I wouldn't let my guard down thinking it was a specifically targeted person. Be vigilant! Additionally, this makes the victim possibly look bad, like he was into something he shouldn't have been. I hope that is not what people think. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! This was a kind and helpful MAN who fell easy prey to scum who suck at life and don't care about anything or anyone else but themselves or their sorry habits. If they do act like they are providing for a family or something by thieving, its from the blood of innocent people, their children will be proud. "Merry Christmas Son, we worked hard for this..." They probably PRETEND to be men by day...
