Owasso comes together to pray for prosperity and unity

The city of Owasso paused on Tuesday to pray for prosperity and unity among the people and the community.

During a special prayer service held at city hall, local pastors and members of the community stopped to give thanks.

There were several dozen people gathered on the lawn and they all had one goal in mind: to see their city continue to prosper.

With every head bowed and every eye closed, the group came to fellowship and give thanks for what they've been given.

"I just feel really blessed that we have a city that still depends on God for direction on where we are and where we are going, and knowing that we cannot make it without him," says Rita Peter.

She says she is blessed to be a part of this community and she hopes that prayer services like these will become an annual thing.

"This was such a strength and the best form of security that we can have," says Peter.

They prayed for city government, education, businesses and for the president and the unity of the nation.

This follows a scandal at city hall in Owasso where former city manager Rodney Ray resigned in June amid allegations of criminal and corrupt acts while in office.

"We just believe that things are going to change in the city of Owasso for the better, and I just believe that God is doing something special here," says Sennola Fruga.
Local pastors like Alvin Fruga tell FOX23 that prayer lets God know what's on people's hearts. That's why he and other pastors in the area pray once a week for this community.

He says God laid it on their hearts to pray for the city the night before the nationwide, See You At The Pole event held at local schools.

So on Tuesday evening, they gathered around the flagpole at City Hall.

"We feel the need and the passion and the calling to pray for our city and make sure that it stays the way that God wants it to be," says pastor Alvin Fruga.

Matthew 6:5. The hypocrites always ignore that instruction from their dead savior.

It is absolutely astonishing that here we are in the 21st century and there are still people who talk at make-believe sky daddies. Some day I hope to determine whether religion makes people insane, or if it's just that mentally deficient suckers simply gravitate toward idiotic beliefs. It's a huge mystery. www.godisimaginary.com
