OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Corrections officials say several inmates
were hurt after disturbances erupted at three prisons in Oklahoma.
Corrections Department spokesman Jerry Massie said Saturday six
inmates were taken to hospitals in southwestern Oklahoma after a
fight broke out at the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite.
Massie says fights also were reported at Dick Conner
Correctional Center in Hominy and at the Cimarron Correctional
Facility, a private facility in Cushing. He says inmates who were
hurt at those prisons were treated on site.
Massie says there were no reports of injuries to guards.
He says the initial disturbance happened about 5 p.m. at the
Oklahoma State Reformatory, and other fights ensued.
Massie declined to confirm a report that the fights involved
Native American and Hispanic prisoners.
He says all medium-security prisons in Oklahoma were placed on
lockdown.
