Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Deputy David Allford died in a single car crash west of Okemah on Wednesday night.

Allford was responding to an “officer needs assistance” call around 4:20 p.m. west of Okemah, on Interstate 40 when an apparent blow-out caused him to lose control of his Tahoe and roll. Deputy Allford was thrown from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.

Allford, 37, was a U.S. Army Veteran and had been a police officer in Oklahoma since 2000. OHP is asking for thoughts and prayers for his wife, Becky, and their two children.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013, at 10:00 A.M., at the Wetumka First Assembly of God with interment at the Wetumka Cemetery.

Memorial funds in David Allford’s name have been established at BancFirst of Okemah and Citizen’s State Bank of Okemah.

The SUV was burned too severely to determine if a blowout was a cause. Normally this would involve weeks of forensic investigation, but the OHP decided to close the case on the spot. Speeding and no seat belt.
