A hungry robber with a political statement tries to take the Hamburglar's job at an East Tulsa McDonald’s.
Police said while in the drive-thru, a crook, armed with a gun, and wearing a President Barack Obama Halloween mask held up the McDonald’s in the 1800 block of S. Garnett Road Thursday night.
The Weiner family thought it would be a family night at McDonald’s.
"Cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets," said Jason Weiner.
Their dinner turned into a night they will never forget.
"All the workers started screaming and the doors got locked," said Weiner.
The father who had children ages two to nine years old said no one could leave and no one could get out.
"We had five our kids in there so it was a little scary," said Weiner.
The Weiner family just witnessed a robbery in the drive-thru.
"Everyone started freaking out so the kids started freaking out," said Weiner.
A friend of Jason Weiner’s was actually behind the crook in the drive-thru and noticed it looked like the President was in line. Turned out President Obama was at the White House last night.
Weiner describes what his friend told police.
"Saw the gun hanging out the window saw the mask," said Weiner.
Witnesses saw the gunmen and police said the cashier thought it was a joke until he was looking down the barrel of a gun.
Police said the witnesses made a safe move and stayed back to get a good description.
The robber and his passenger, who was wearing a black cloth over his face, got away with cash.
"My four year old told the police officer that maybe the robber was hungry," said Weiner.
However, police said the crooks didn’t even wait to get the two Big Macs they ordered in the drive-thru.
No one got hurt but this a reminder for the Weiner family to have a plan.
"May have to think of a plan. I never thought about having one," said Weiner.
Police recommend you don’t be a hero and just stay out of the way and pay attention to details. Remember what a suspect looks like from head to toe and a getaway vehicle description and tag number.
However, Weiner said he’ll go a step further if he has to keep his family safe.
"It's good to be carrying concealed. You can't be Eddie Murphy in Coming to America
and carry a broomstick," said Weiner.
The witness told police the robber wore a Halloween Obama mask, driving a late 1990’s maroon Ford Taurus with tag #OK 731-GJA.
Robbery detectives said the car was reported stolen last month.
