Cowboy’s past and present know about the homecoming “walk-around”. It’s a display of elaborate decorations built by OSU’s Greek community.

It’s hard to believe the masterpieces start out as a wooden frame and lots of small pieces of pomp, which is basically tissue paper.

FOX23 learned while being in Stillwater, how much work goes into the works of art.

They do it for tradition and for the alumni.

“They come from all parts of the country. Last year I think we had 80,000 people come, and it just continues to increase each year,” Senior Phi Delta Theta member Chris Hinckley said.

He was a big part of making one of the floats, although he wasn’t sure exactly how long he, his fraternity brothers and their partnering sorority worked on the decoration.

However, he knew it was in the hundreds of hours.

Despite the weather Friday night, people still showed up to walk around and check out the amazing décor.

It’s an event the alumni look forward to attending.

“It’s like Christmas. You show up to the excitement of the surprise of what the houses have done for decorations,” alumni Wendy James told FOX23.

“I haven’t missed a homecoming since I started coming to OSU in the fall of 2005,” alumni Myriah Johnson added.

FOX23 caught up with one alumni from Ohio, who came back, despite a crazy week.

“I had an emergency surgery on my hand, so I ended up flying,” alumni Cole Yearwood said. “But I wasn’t going to let even an an ER visit on Monday keep me from being here this weekend.”

The decorations were just the beginning of a “Cowboy Weekend”, where everyone around Stillwater knows, their team will come out on top.

When asked who would win the game on Saturday. They all had the same answer. Go Pokes.
