An Oral Roberts University student has won a national scholarship.
Dr, Susan Huffman, National President of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society for First Year Students, announced a Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship in the amount of $6,000 has been awarded to Noelle Smits, a senior at Oral Roberts University, for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Each year, National Alpha Lambda Delta awards at least 35 Trow scholarships to outstanding students across the country. The competition is open to any sophomore member of the Society who has maintained the required 3.5 GPA. Selection is based on academic records, participation in Alpha Lambda Delta activities, applicants’ statements, and campus and community activities.
“Noelle is one of only five students to receive the maximum amount awarded by the Trow scholarship,” said Catherine Klehm, ORU professor and faculty advisor to Alpha Lambda Delta. “She is an outstanding scholar and truly embodies ORU’s Whole Person mentality. We are so proud that her hard work has resulted in national recognition from such a prestigious organization.”
Smits, a native of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, is studying modern foreign language education with an emphasis in French at ORU.
