South Tulsa --
An Oral Roberts University basketball player accused of domestic assault now faces several charges.
Police arrested 22-year-old Steven Roundtree over the weekend. He’s accused of beating up his pregnant girlfriend.
FOX23’s Sharon Phillips talked with that young woman, but because police say she's a victim of domestic violence we are not revealing her identity.
She told FOX23 off-camera that despite being afraid, she and her unborn child are doing okay.
She also told FOX23 off-camera that for some reason her boyfriend, Steven Roundtree snapped, and she says she's not sure why.
“Have you talked to Steven at all?” She shook her head no and says she hasn't spoken to him since his arrest on Sunday.
She tells FOX23 that she wants people to know she is doing okay and so is her unborn child. Police say right now, she's six months along with Roundtree's baby.
According to the police report Roundtree assaulted her causing visible injuries to her mouth and her face.
It goes on to say her injuries are a direct result of Roundtree striking her in the mouth with his hands and fists, and grabbing her by the face and pushing and pulling her through the apartment.
The report also states she was held down by Roundtree while he covered her face with a pillow in an attempt to suffocate her.
He was later arrested on the campus of ORU.
Tyler Green lives in the same dorm as Roundtree.
"They just said that security had come up to his room and escorted him out of the building. I was there to help clean out his room during that time," he says.
The university confirmed Roundtree was suspended earlier this year on a different violation of team rules, but it's not clear if he has been kicked off the team permanently. However, a check of the team's roster on its website does not reveal his name.
On campus, students tell us they are shocked about what happened.
“He's one of our star athletes, if not our best player then one of the best players on the team," says Green.
"It's sad when I see players and people like Roundtree mess up, but I mess up just as he so I know that ORU is a very forgiving and grace-filled campus," says student, Jeff Barker.
Green lives in the same dorm as Roundtree and would often see him around. Like Roundtree he also signed ORU’s honor code, pledging to be a person of integrity in attitude and actions.
Police say that standard of excellence was broken on Sunday when officers arrested the 22 year old.
In addition to assault, Roundtree is accused of interrupting his girlfriend's 911 call, obstructing a police officer and stealing her car.
The university tells FOX23 it's not able to comment on his current status as a student.
