TULSA, OK -- Oral Roberts University sophomore Chris Slager shared a moving testimony with Fox 23 Sunday afternoon, in memory of the school's late founder.
Slager admits he was the last student to pray with Dr. Oral Roberts, before Roberts' demise.
Slager grew up in Queens, New York and was introduced to the street life and drugs during his teen years. He read a book penned by Dr. Roberts, that Slager admits impacted his life and inspired him to turn his life around by enrolling in RHEMA Bible College and Oral Roberts University.
"He taught me to believe," Slager said.
The poignant moment happened during the inauguration of the school's third president, in September.
"I thought to myself, if I don't talk to him now, I probably won't speak to him in my life," he said.
Determined to meet Dr. Roberts, Slager said he made his way through security and asked Roberts' driver permission for the special moment.
"I sat there in his car, as I looked in his eyes, I couldn't even speak, it was like God himself was looking at me," he expressed, "He just looked in my eyes and said 'God bless you.' I just humbled myself and I got right there, tears started coming right down my eyes I said I receive that in Jesus' name."
In 2007, shortly after his move to Tulsa from New York, Slager founded a non-profit organization, with a goal to change lives as Dr. Roberts changed his.
"I'm taking the healing power of God into the streets."
