The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified a trooper they said shot and killed a man at a Tulsa hotel on Sunday.

OHP said Trooper Sheldon Robinson, a 16-year veteran, was the trooper involved in the shooting.  OHP is investigating.

Around 1 a.m., an off-duty trooper spotted two armed men on the balcony of the Best Budget Inn, located near Admiral and Sheridan Road.

OHP Capt. George Brown tells FOX23 the off-duty trooper identified himself to the men as an Oklahoma highway patrolmen. The men then did something that made the trooper feel threatened, and that's when the trooper opened fire, killing one of the armed men.

The other man fled the scene.

He is described as a white or Hispanic male. No charges have been filed against this man, but troopers are looking to question him.

Several people at the scene were taken in for questioning.

Justin Ficher told FOX23 that he was a friend of the victim and was inside of the Best Budget Inn when the shooting happened.

“I’m still pretty much in shock,” said Ficher, “ We were on the second floor balcony having a few drinks and talking then I went up to go to sleep and I hear a couple of gunshots and then the cops burst in my door and handcuff me.”

No weapons were ever found, so the victim is still considered "unarmed."

Off-duty Tulsa cop David Turner was recently busted for meeting a prostitute at a motel, so yes, it is plausible this trooper could have been doing the same.

Thanks fox23 for updating the story after I commented, adding the trooper claimed he saw 2 armed men, but got a little fuzzy as to what they did to make the trooper loose his cool and start shooting. The witness intimidation is a nice touch, too.

Third, you would be surprised at the innocuous things that make a "trooper feel threatened." One assumes a weapon was flashed, but if that were the case that would have been the first thing mentioned. An ambulance driver had his ambulance stopped and was choked because an OHP trooper thought he was given the finger, so it takes very little to make OHP "feel threatened."

Second, what is it about two men standing on a hotel balcony that allegedly compelled an off-duty cop to asert his authority?

First off, why was the trooper's identity withheld?

OK Then let's ask, what was Miguel doing at this motel, one of Tulsa's most notorious for drugs, prostitution, child porn and criminals? I will have to side with the trooper.
