OHP identifies trooper, suspect involved in shooting

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the suspect shot and killed in an overnight shooting in west Tulsa on Saturday.

The shooting happened at 32nd West Avenue near 61st Street South in Tulsa. The suspect has been identified as 33-year old Tel Levi Rodgers of Claremore, OK.

The State Trooper involved in the incident is 28-year old Bobby Raines of Sapulpa, OK. Raines has been a state trooper with Oklahoma Highway Patrol for one year and six months. He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation.

"He went for my gun" is the stock justification used by police everywhere nowadays. While it sounds much better than trying to claim "suicide by cop" it's not foolproof: a Phoenix cop who used the same story after killing an unarmed man was just convicted, because his partner refused to go along with perjury. Too bad no one at OHP has such a conscience.
