The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is preparing for winter weather conditions.

"We are in communication with Oklahoma Department of Transportation officials who advise they are not taking any chances. Road crews are staged around the highway system, loading trucks with salt and sand in preparation for impending weather," said OHP Captain George Brown.

Troopers will step up morning patrols and extend increased patrols well past the morning commute. Motorists are encouraged to take all necessary actions in preparation of poor road conditions, including stocking vehicles with warm clothing, de-icing agent, a blanket and cell phone with charger.

If motorists experience a roadside emergency such as a flat tire or engine trouble, they may contact OHP at *55 on the mobile phone. A trooper will be dispatched to assist.
