A worker with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation was killed in an accident on Highway 75 on Monday.

OHP officials say Tim Vandiver, Superintendent of Checotah Interstate Maintenance, died when a truck he was sitting in on the shoulder of the highway was hit by an RV.

Officials say the crash happened in a work zone near Henryetta around 12:30. Officials say the driver of the RV was sleepy. The ODOT worker was ejected from the truck and died instantly.

ODOT released this statement about Vandiver's death:

Tim Vandiver, Superintendent of Checotah Interstate Maintenance at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, was tragically killed this afternoon, June 25, 2012.

The department is deeply saddened by this tragedy, which is felt by each of his 2,400 coworkers statewide. Our thoughts are with the Vandiver’s family, friends and fellow crew members during this difficult time.

Vandiver was 47 years old and had been with ODOT since October 1994.

The exact cause and details of the accident are currently under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The accident occurred on eastbound I-40 just east of Henryetta while Vandiver was stopped on the side of the road just at the beginning of a workzone.

I would agree, mustangdriver sounds like and is probably one of the biggest offenders, this happens way too often, this man was doing his job trying to improve the roads and died because some idiot stayed up too late the night before, was drugged, drinking, stoned or whatever. It is a shame, no one takes any responsibility for themselves or others lives, no one thinks about the consequences of their actions, no one shows respect to anyone any more, like everyone suddenly turned into a generation of moonbat, self absorbed adolescents.

This really burns my butt. There are legitimate reasons for slowing down and paying attention when you drive thru a work zone. You get tailgated by the idoit road ragers that should have their licenses revoked for life or you get the idiot eating a doughnut, texting and driving with her knees(I saw this for real)Everyone gripes about work zones but they want good roads too.
