We're two weeks away from election night. As we get closer, you can expect even more campaign signs to pop up.
However, the state will be cracking down on signs that are not placed in the right area legally.
FOX23 found three campaign signs on the entrance to the Broken Arrow Expressway on 21st street. The signs could be seen but not in the right place.
"It’s really a waste of time and a waste of money to put signs on the state right-of-way on the highway," said Oklahoma Department of Transportation Spokesperson Keena Mitchell.
Mitchell told FOX23 the signs are considered a public nuisance along the highway.
"Anything that might take the eye off of the road and on to these signs," she said.
State law says signs placed on the borders of highways, between roads and fences, are illegal.
A reminder was sent out to campaign headquarters on Monday.
It says illegally placed signs jeopardize public safety, create maintenance hazards and are removed at taxpayer expense.
ODOT says that costs about four million dollars a year.
"When you're looking at budget cuts, if that's taking away money from programs we absolutely need, then I think it should be up to the campaign administrators for picking up their signs," said Debbie Johnson, a Tulsa resident.
ODOT says if anyone does see a campaign sign along the right of way of the highway to just give them a call. The number is (918) 838-9933.
