A 19 year-old is in the hospital after a shooting in North Tulsa.

Police say two groups of teenagers were shooting at each other and one person got hit.  It happened around the 49OO block of North Boston Place at 2 pm Saturday.

Police aren’t sure what started it. Neighbors told officers a large group of teenagers were in the front yard fighting.  Eventually, some of them took out guns and started shooting. As far as police know, only one of those teenagers got hit, but neighbors are worried about they might be next.

Keith Wilson said, “you have little kids out here playing basketball or football in the streets and these boys don't care about shooting. They are going to hit one of these kids.”

As a high school football coach, Wilson knows many of the teenagers that live in his neighborhood.

He said, “We have more death in this neighborhood than anything. It's getting sickening."

As soon as he heard there was a shooting involving teens, he rushed over to see if it was anyone he knew.

"My son was going to work and told me they had one of my football players house blocked off to make sure it wasn't him and it wasn't," he explained.

Neighbors tell officers the teens were outside fighting and then pulled out guns. Some bullets hit a home and the people inside fired back.

Police found a 19-year old a block and half away from the home on North Boston Place. He was in a backyard laying down bleeding. Officers believe he walked there, trying to get away after the shooting.

Crime scene tape blocked off the streets, as police searched yards and inside houses for anyone else that might have been hit or involved. Investigators didn't find any of the teens, but a K-9 officer did sniff out at least one of the guns used. Many neighbors stood outside and watched.

One neighbor said, "It’s just how the neighborhood is. It's been like this, it's crazy.”

Wilson said he’s tired of hearing gun shots everyday.

"It’s an ongoing thing,” he explained. ”Until we as residents in this neighborhood stand up and do something, it's going to continue."

The teen who was hit is in the hospital in serious condition. Detectives aren't sure exactly how he was involved in this, whether he's one of the shooters or just got caught in the middle of it.

No arrests have been made and police don't have any suspects. Police are asking for anyone with information to call crime stoppers at (918) 596-COPS.

Guys Guys, it wasn't who ignored the problem once it began as much as the people who was in denial and allowed it to take hold, if it had been dealt with in the early days, it might have gone a different direction, but there is no guarantee of that either, gangs are everywhere now, the problem is you can't carry a juveniles record forward once they are 18, so it is like a clean start for them, they do what they want then when they turn 18 they are virgins again and can start over, and by then they have their nitch and are deeply into the life, it is a failure of parents, law enforcement can only do so much, if they do too much, they find themselves being fired, jailed and their lives ruined, see everyone wants the gangs stopped, but no one wants their young harmed or shot, parents are only concerned with their kids after the cops have arrested or shot them. That is the reason pure and simple.

aleman, your are incorrect to blame the issue of Gangs on former Police Chief Drew Diamond. Back in the early 70's when Drew Diamond was Police Chief he started a neighborhood based police patrol to deal with the startup of Gangs. The city leaders said that Tulsa did not have a GANG PROBLEM and were pissed that to many officers were being deployed in North Tulsa. That's when Diamond was thrown out and the GANG PROBLEM was allowed to fester and grow to what it is today.

You are absolutely right we don't make it worse ,they do it to themselves.Damned hip hop culture mtv. has been promoting for 20 years doesn't help.MF every other word, derogatory lyrics about women and the police, incessant promotion of drug use and crime. These kids have never been taught manners or respect for others and it's a lot of darned white,Indian and hispanic boys too, so racism is not the issue. You Sir are the fool as you turn a blind eye to the cause of the problem and stick to the status quo of blaming the 'Man' for everything that they do.If these kids don't know any better they need to be under some kind care for mentally challenged children. The big problem is mtv has promoted anti- intellectualism, you're a nerd if you study in school and don't wear the baggy pants and don't have the "Swagger" .No Mr.3582 we'll never get better with people like you.By the way I'm Indian or Native American as the politically correct call us much to our disdain.

Yeah, he called them the "prevalent culture", more like "malevolent culture",bunch of dirty, uneducated, little gutter trash, they get a gun and think they are bada**es, I've been carrying a gun for years and haven't had to shoot anyone yet, but then I have the intelligence to actually talk things out and settle my problems mono y mono, I don't go driving by in a car like a coward and fire into a crowd of people including innocent ones who have done nothing to me, one thing we do know, they aren't bullet proof, so maybe it won't be me they read about.

It is the culture the music they listen to and tv encourages it.I've recently witnessed a boy go from good natured smart kid to a sullen thug overnight.I'm sorry but it is the choice they make themselves and they have to suffer the consequences. This 3582 guy even threatens violence with his statement "say that to the members of this prevalent culture and will be reading about you".The problem is Tulsa is very soft on crime and criminals all over know it.It started with Drew Diamond(ex-police chief)a few years back when he announced his softer, gentle approach to crime and the gangs came pouring in.
