(TULSA, Okla.) July 1- The City of Tulsa has begun a new more frugal fiscal year. To help alleviate the cash crunch, Tulsa Fire Department has launched a pilot program to respond to emergencies.
TFD is testing the program at two stations. It is replacing a fire truck with a cheaper, more efficient response vehicle. Each of those vehicles is staffed with a firefighter and a firefighter medic.
Critics say losing a fire truck will jeopardize public safety but, firefighters say that's not the case.
TFD says the fire trucks at the two stations will now be staffed with four firefighters, instead of three.
If successful, the program will be implemented at other stations around Tulsa.
