A long-time Muskogee police officer has been arrested, accused of assaulting and kidnapping his wife.

Mark Ridley has been a police officer for more than 17 years.

The Muskogee County Sheriff, Charles Pearson, told FOX23 the woman was in her car and on the phone with a person at the sheriff's department when Ridley drove up behind her.

He said then there was the sound of a crash and the line went dead.

Ridley is accused of ramming into her car and forcing her to go with him to their home. The officer is in the Muskogee County jail.

Gene Pointes at Advantage Bail Bonds knows Ridley personally from working with him over the years.

"It's one of those things you truly don't know the person. You would have never have known he was capable of doing this," said Pointes.

Ridley is currently on administrative leave with the police department because of a previous incident with his wife in December. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, forcible sodomy, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He will be allowed to resign and quietly move on to the next police department. Got to love public safety unions.
