Muskogee police are investigating after a body was found in the woods near the Terraces neighborhood in the city.
Police began investigating after a dog was found with a human arm near 11th and Shawnee. A body was found about 300 yards from where the arm was found on Friday afternoon. Police say the body was found in the woods in an undeveloped part of the city.
Police say the body is badly decomposed, and they have few clues to go on at this point in their investigation.
“(Investigators) we’re not able to identify age race of sex at this time, so we’re still looking into that,” Muskogee Police Officer Pedro Zardeneta told FOX23.
Neighbors who live near the scene were surprised that a body was discovered just yards from their homes.
“This is just something where it’s not a norm for this city, and it’s not a norm for this neighborhood at all,” Reverend Jerry Washington told FOX23.
The state Medical Examiner will try to make a positive identification on the body using dental records and possibly fingerprints.
Officers say right now, there is no indication how the person died and whether or not foul was involved.
Police say they are following a few leads, but if you have any information on this case, you’re asked to call Muskogee Police at (918)-683-8000.
