MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - A 21-year-old Muskogee man has been ordered to stand trial for first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy.
Elbert Lee Meeks was bound over for trial Wednesday following a preliminary hearing in Muskogee County District Court. He's charged in the Dec. 21 death of Ja'Cion Logan.
Prosecutors say the child was shot when Meeks tried to force his way into the home of the boy's grandmother. The Muskogee Phoenix reports the grandmother - Sandra Cooper - testified that as Meeks tried to enter the home he grabbed her by the hair and was trying to shoot her when the child was shot.
Meeks is to enter a plea when he's formally arraigned on April 12. He has said he was at home celebrating his birthday at the time of the shooting.
